Utopikator an installation by Nikos Arvanitis and Jens Maier-Rothe Schiller Festival, Weimar, Germany, 2005 ![]() The "Utopikator" generates nothing more than soap bubbles. Against the background of casting doubts on ideals asFriedrich Schiller describes in his poem ?Ideals?: "... The offspring of my dream hath perished /My faith in being passed away / The godlike hopes that once I cherish /Are now reality's sad prey." the artists create a sensual installation. The Utopia site transforms to machine. Utopikator sends a soap bubble over its trajectory to a trip through space. Grumbling, the complex process of generating the bubble setsthe whole apparatus in vibration. During its short lifetime, the soap bubble defines an Utopian space within space, till natural influencesand processes, determine its fragile existence. Why does one actually wishes that the bubble won´t burst this time ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Close Window |
